Sapa is blessed with breathtaking landscape, from great mountains that sometimes seem to disappear in the mist and clouds …
…to verdant rice terraces that run as far as the eyes can see on the rugged mountainsides.
Theses beautiful rice fields have different shades of green depends on the season you’re visiting.
The centre of Sapa has its own dreamy and romantic atmosphere, especially when it’s covered in mist and cloud. You can wander around to take photos, visit the stone Catholic Church – one of the most famous landmarks here, and enjoy delicious food, especially in the evening. The ‘Love market’ is also held weekly at the town square on Saturday evening.
The ethnic minority groups living in Lao Cai province preserve their culture and traditions very well. People differentiate them by their colourful outfits and the scarves they wear on their heads. These groups live in small villages on the mountains and their income is mostly from agriculture, and now also from tourism.
From the town of Sapa, you can do some short treks to visit their villages and get to learn more about their life in the mountains. Or you can experience a few of the local markets here, people from different places will gather to socialize and trade. This is a very interesting activity, especially for visitors from other countries.
