Siem Reap is the capital city of Cambodia, lies in the northwestern region of the country. Siem Reap has Chinese-style architecture in the Old French Quarter and around the Old Market. In the city, there are traditional Apsara dance performances, craft shops, silk farms., rice-paddy countryside, fishing villages and a bird sanctuary near Tonle Sap Lake.
Located at the northwest edge of Tonle Sap Lake or the “Great Lake”, civilization at Angkor relied on the resource-rich lake to support the construction of the temples, some of which took decades to build.
As the gateway to the magnificent temples of Angkor, Siem Reap is sitting on Southeast Asia’s biggest drawcard, yet the town and its people still retain their countryside outlook and wonderful sense of Cambodian hospitality.
