Day 2: HCMC – Cu Chi Tunnels – HCMC City Tour

After breakfast at the hotel, at around 8.30am we depart from Ho Chi Minh City to Cu Chi Tunnels, that’s about 80km from Ho Chi Minh city. The tunnel system was built by the Viet Cong in the war battles in the South of Vietnam. The tunnels are a sobering insight into the dedication of the Viet Cong who lived almost entirely underground in the narrow and claustrophobic tunnels, for up to 10 years! Upon arrival, you will have a chance to watch a brief video that will introduce you to the Cu Chi tunnels, followed by a walk through the reserve. In this walk, you can see the Secret Entrance to the tunnels, workshops for the handmade weapons, the clinic bunker, the commander bunker, the meeting bunker and the kitchen bunkers, which are all open and above ground. Nearby is a chilling exhibition of the traps and weapons used against the American GIs. If you are brave, you can experience the Cu Chi tunnels by crawling inside to see how difficult life must have been, and discover the 3 levels underground.
For those who do not like the claustrophobic atmosphere, you do not have to crawl into these tunnels! The small replica displayed outside will give you a perfect example of what the interior looked like.

We return HCMC around noon for Lunch at local restaurant (at your own expense).
In the afternoon, our guide will show you the most interesting sights that Ho Chi Minh City has to offer. Depart from your hotel to the Reunification Palace; this beautifully preserved palace was the residence of the President of the Republic of Vietnam. On April 30th, 1975 the American War officially came to an end here. Enjoy a visiting the War Remnants Museum where you can see countless artifacts, photographs, and pictures documenting the second Indochina war.
After this, we visit The Notre Dame Cathedral, which was built in 1880, and the Old Post Office, which was built sometime between 1886 and 1891. It is one of the best examples of classical French colonial architecture. Next is Jade Emperor Pagoda. This is an ancient temple, as the Chinese temple style with bright decorative motifs.
Our last stop will be at a local Market where you can practice your bargaining skills while shopping for souvenirs. Discover local life and culture. You’ll find some of the friendliest, liveliest, most convivial people in the city in here. Return your hotel around 18:00. The evening and dinner are on your own.

During the boat ride, you will stop to visit the small local factories where bricks and sleeping mats are made. Take a leisurely walk along the village lanes visiting the local homes to try dry fruits, taste honey tea while enjoying a local Tai Tu music show.  Continue your morning tour visiting a coconut mill workshop where the local delicacy of coconut candy is produced and a range of coconut husk and fiber products are skillfully handcrafted. You next take a small sampan through palm-fringed back canals, gliding peacefully along the hidden waterways surrounded by an immense variety of tropical plants. The quiet, rural setting is a welcome and restorative retreat to the frenetic buzz of HCMC which seems far, far away. Have some fun by sitting in the back a Motor Cart (Xe Lôi) passing rice, vegetable and orchard farms while meeting with the local people. Stop at a local restaurant by the riverside for Lunch. Here you will sample some of the most delightful cuisines of the Mekong region. After lunch, you will return to the docks where the vehicle waits for your drive back HCMC.

A great service if you want this

I was a female solo traveller and from my first email, I was made to feel important. I detailed the countries I wanted to go to and the time frame. You can also tell them all the things that you want to see and do. I had nothing specific so I left it to my consultant, Helen. She only had 1 month to organise for me to go to Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia for 4 weeks.
Over a short time she came up with an itinerary. We worked through this with a few small changes – but I always felt that nothing was too much trouble for them to sort out for me. If I did not understand something, it was explained to me. I received all the necessary information to do my visas online and all the internal flights and travel were organised. I did not want 5 star hotels so went with 3 star. It was great, all the hotels were right in the middle of the action, were very clean and friendly – after all, you are only sleeping there a short while so gives you more to spend on your holiday. Even once you are into your holiday Helen was still in contact with me to make sure everything was as expected. Again, if you wanted a change along the way, they were only too happy to fix for you. My final itinerary became my nightly bible read so that I knew what was expected the next day. I got to meet with Helen when I reached Hanoi which was really nice.
I was so impressed with their service that I endeavoured to inform all the people I encountered along the way about their capabilities. I always felt very safe wherever I went and it was great being picked up from the airport & taken back. A great service if you want this.

Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia 2019

I went to the 3 countries listed in the title March of 2019 without any knowledge of the countries whatsoever. Asia Trip Deals was nice enough to send me information on all the countries I was visiting and also advise me on all the possible dangers. Also what was very relaxing and helpful was the person who helped me every single day of the tour, Helen Vuong. She kept in touch via WhatsApp every single day, gave suggestions on what was near my hotel, ensured all the tour guides treated me well, acted as a liaison in some cases, but most importantly became like an aunt to me and made sure I was safe and having fun. I truly got a family like experience from the company and I was doing this trip solo. It was unforgettable

Highly recommended Asia Trip Deals

I found Asia Trip Deals online through Trip Advisor which had rated this company 5 stars. I will say, it did not let me down. I was concerned about sending deposit via wire to Vietnam, but the personnel went above and beyond to reassure me of its legitimacy.
Once we got down to the business of creating an itinerary, I soon realized that the sky was the limit. We NEVER would have experienced Vietnam in the manner that we did had we had booked with a traditional US based tour company.
With the assistance of Helen, our travel agent liaison, I was free to choose the type of hotel, city, the level of activity, the variety of activities, as well as the pace of the entire trip. As I was traveling with my 27-year-old daughter, and knew that we had to have a lot of variety built-in to the itinerary. And Helen went above and beyond to make sure that we saw the highlights of Vietnam and Laos. We hiked to the top of waterfalls, we bike rode through rice paddies, we kayaked through the historic Ha Long Bay, we boated down the Mekong River, and enjoyed the festivities of the New Year in Luang Prabang, Laos.
Helen was attentive to the details, and arranged all the transfers from the airport to the hotel and all the activities in between. She responded quickly and with enthusiasm. She was willing to make last-minute changes to our itinerary because of heat, and for that I am thankful.
Our trip would not have been the same without Helen. She was gracious, kind, and responsive at all times given the 12 hour time change. We even had a chance to meet Helen in Hanoi, and I am so glad that I had a chance to personally thank her for making such a memorable trip. Hats off to you, my dear. My hope is that our paths cross again.
